Students of grade V studying the theme ˜Preservation' in PBL had the opportunity to visit Delhi Milk Scheme and witness the process of pasteurization in which raw milk is treated by heating and cooling at an extreme temperature so that its shelf life increases.
Delhi Milk Scheme is a subordinate office of Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. It was commissioned on 1 November 1959 with the purpose of providing milk to people of Delhi. Other than milk, it also produces other milk products like Butter, Ghee, Dahi, Paneer, Buttermilk etc.
The students visited DMS under the guidance of Mr. Venkat. He explained students the process of pasteurization, how it is done at different stages and at different stations. He took students in batches for a tour of the plant where they could observe the process starting from cooling to packing.
Students also felt content after getting all their questions answered patiently. They were later distributed buttermilk and sweet yogurt by the DMS team as a return gift which students really enjoyed and relished.
In all, it was an engaging and learning experience for the students.
